The Lovell High School golf teams competed at the Powell Invitational on Thursday and Friday last week.

The boys squad was able to place seventh overall, and the girls finished in eighth.

“It was a good week to get our feet under us a bit,” coach Dane Robertson said. “The temperature was hot, but at times our clubs were not.”

For the boys, the LHS golfers had the following places: Kaeson Anderson 27th, Kellan Jackson 43rd, Jacob Thomas 46th, Jaxon Hayes 48th, Kade Durtsche 51st, Aren Olsen 52nd and Aaiden Walker 56th. Tyler Wilkerson played one round and didn’t place but shot a 117. Rocco Rael also only played one round, shooting 94.

“Kaeson shot 86 on day one and 89 on day two, which are some respectable scores for the opening week,” Robertson said.

On the girls side, the results were: Kenley Wilson 19th, Madalyn McCollam 21st and Makinli Mowery 26th.

“I thought Makinli, our incoming freshman from Greybull, was able to perform well in her first-ever tournament,” Robertson said. “We struggled a little bit more on day two, for the most part, but it was good for the golfers to see where they stack up against the competition.”

The Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs will head to Thermopolis to compete at the Thermop Invite this Thursday and Friday.

“We will use what we gleaned from our games in Powell to sharpen the proverbial blades of our skill sets and be prepared for Thermopolis later this week, which will have a much smaller field,” Robertson said. “If the players can focus on what they can control and not let frustration creep into their bag, they will see greater success.”
