The Lovell High School golf program began practice this Monday at Foster Gulch Golf Course.

Head coach Dane Robertson was impressed with the 27 athletes that have shown up to participate in the program this year.

“That adds a layer of competition to the team,” he said. “I can usually only take 10-12 players to any given tournament, so the players will have more teammates to play against in order to qualify for tournaments.”

For the girls team, Kenley Wilson and Madalyn McCollam are returning from last year’s squad. With the addition of two female freshman golfers, Robertson is excited to have a full girls team to compete this season.

“Both returners have lots of experience and are looking to shoot their best rounds yet,” he said.

On the boys side, returning from the state team are Kaeson Anderson, Jacob Thomas and Kellan Jackson.

“There is a slew of athletes that are looking to fill the last couple of varsity spots and get some good action on the JV side of things throughout the season, as well,” Robertson said.

Both the girls and boys teams will kick off the year in Powell this Thursday and Friday at the Powell Invitational.

“After this weekend, we will have a barometer reading to see where we stack up against the other teams and what we need to work on in our own games to get better,” he added. “It’s going to be exciting.”
