LHS golfers find success at 3A West Conference Championships
The conditions were ideal for the Lovell High School golf program to host the 3A West Conference Championships at Foster Gulch Golf Course in Lovell last Thursday and Friday.
“The course was in phenomenal shape and gave the kids a good challenge,” Lovell coach Dane Robertson said. “It’s always funny to see golfers show up to Foster Gulch and see that it is short and straight and think they’ll just dominate it, but by the end of the tournament their shoulders are inevitably slumped as they walk away like someone kicked their dog. The Gulch takes no prisoners and doesn’t discriminate.”
Coach Robertson added that both Kenley Wilson (12th) and Madalyn McCollam (10th) were able to place well enough to earn all-conference honors.
“That was wonderful to have them both play well enough to earn that award,” Robertson said. “Madalyn played some of the best golf of her career to shoot a 203 over the two days, while Kenley posted a strong 205.”
For the girls, results were as follows: McCollam 100+103=203; Wilson 105+100=205; Makinli Mowery 109+101=210.
The girls team placed fourth overall.
The boys team placed fifth overall with the following scores: Kaeson Anderson 90+94=184; Kellan Jackson 95+90=185; Jacob Thomas 96+95=191; Rocco Rael 102+93=195; Kade Durtsche 102+105=207; Jaxon Hayes, 108+112=220.
The teams will wrap up their season this Friday and Saturday as the teams feel prepared for the challenge of the Class 3A State Tournament, Robertson said.
“We look forward to ending our season at State at the wonderful course of Olive Glenn Country Club in Cody,” he said.
