LHS spring golf sees improvement in Cody
The Lovell High School boys and girls spring golf teams traveled to Cody on Friday, May 2, to compete in the Cody High School Spring Invite at the Olive Glenn Golf Club.
For the girls, Madalyn McCollam was the top finisher with a combined score of 109 after shooting 55 on the front nine holes and 54 on the back nine to place 13th.
“Madalyn shot a tournament record best and snuck under 110, which bodes well for her as she will enter her senior season this fall,” coach Dane Robertson said. “I hope she will continue to feel confident in herself as she progresses.”
Kenley Wilson was just one stroke behind McCollam and took 14th overall with a score of 110 while Lily Bauwens placed 22nd with a total of 130 strokes.
“Lily also shot a personal best this week, and her scores have consistently dropped at each successive tournament,” Robertson said. “She is working hard on her game at practice, and that is showing in tournaments.”
Robertson added, “Although Kenley didn’t shoot her best score, I was proud of the way she handled herself on the course through some tough holes. She continues to mature in her game, and as a result, she will see unprecedented success in future tournaments.”
BOYS RESULTS
In the boys division, the Bulldogs had five golfers competing on the course.
Matthew Allen shot a 45 on the front nine and improved with a 43 on the back nine for a total of 88 strokes on the day to place 18th overall.
“Matthew participated in his first event of the spring season and started off where he left off in the fall,” Coach Robertson said. “His average has been around 86, so to shoot an 88 in Cody for his first tournament is respectable.”
Jaxon Hayes shot a total of 114 to finish 46th, with Gary Gardner at 125 in 50th, Tyler Wilkerson at 126 for 51st and Aren Olsen at 130 to take 52nd.
The teams will next compete this Saturday, May 9, in Lander.
