March abounds both in events and in fundraisers for the Lovell Library.

Lovell Friends of the Library are hosting an easter basket raffle in March, branch manager Cathy Collins said.

Tickets will be on sale starting March 11, either $1 each or six tickets for $5, with the drawing on March 28, just in time for Easter, Collins said.

Another fundraiser in March is the magazine drive, said Lily Jones, library assistant. The drive has been going on for the past four years to raise money for magazine subscriptions, Jones said.

“Last year, with the money they raised, the library was able to purchase six full-year subscriptions and then we carry 12 different magazines,” she said.

March is national reading month, so the library is encouraging the community to read more during the month, she said. All of the regular activities, like Bingo and Lego Club, will continue in March, she said.

Family History, where local resident Rena Croft guides community members through navigating their personal family history, is on Mondays from 10 a.m. to noon. Collins said the turnout for family history has been low, with just one consistent patron of the service.

Croft is happy to help anyone learn more about their family history on Monday mornings, Collins said.

The turnout for adult Bingo, which is on Mondays at 1 p.m., is growing, with around 6-10 adults each week, Jones said. The adults seem to be having fun, and the group has a solid group of regulars, she said.

Nearly 30 kids have attended preschool story time each week the past month, said Linda Mangus, assistant manager at the library. In the winter months, turnout for preschool story time largely depends on the weather, Mangus said.

On average, at least 15 to 20 kids turn out for preschool story time, and the library always preps for 25 kids to turnout, Mangus said. The turnout for preschool story time is expected to continue to be robust, she said.

Book and Create, a monthly book and craft event for kids, will be on March 14 at 4 p.m. and is led by volunteer Donna Capallen. The event is geared toward those in elementary school, Collins said, but older kids are not turned away, Collins said.

The book for the teen and tween book club in March, which is called Get Literary, is a graphic novel edition of “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer,” by Mark Twain, which is illustrated by Daniel Strickland. The club will meet on March 11 at 5 p.m.

The adult book for March is “Lilac Girls,” by Martha Hall Kelly, and the club will meet on March 20 at 5 p.m.

Stitch Happens, a group for crocheting and stitching projects, will meet on the first and third Thursday of the month, March 7 and 21, at 5 p.m. Jones said the group has had a consistent group who enjoy socializing while crafting.
