Lindsay breaks school indoor track record in shot put

The Lovell Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs made the trip over the Big Horns last Saturday to compete in the Campbell County Invite to start their 2026 indoor track and field season.

Celeste Lindsay had a great performance in the first meet by breaking the school record for the shot put with a throw of 38-¼, placing third in the event. Head coach AJ Montanez was very pleased with Lindsay’s performance and feels she has the ability to go 40 feet by the outdoor season.

A strong field of 18 teams made the trip to Gillette for the Campbell County meet, and in the girls division Thunder Basin came away with the title with 109 points, with Casper Kelly Walsh placing second with 77 points and Laramie finishing third with 71 points. The Lady Bulldogs placed 14th with the 6 points earned by Lindsay in the shot put.

On the boys side it was Sheridan winning the meet championship with 99.5 points followed by Thunder Basin with 77 points and Kelly Walsh in third place with 75 points. The Lovell boys team finished in 17th place with 3 points.

Halen Strom was the only other Lovell athlete to score in the meet as he placed sixth in shot put with a toss of 46-½. Tazz McArthur placed 34th in the shot put with a throw of 36-6¼, and teammate Sam Cordova had a mark of 32-5 to place 61st. In the long jump Nate Cornia had the best mark for the Bulldogs, going 17-9¾, which placed him 22nd in the event. Anthony Garcia placed 24th with a jump of 17-9¼. Robert Capers had a leap of 16-9¼ to place 40th, and Conner Grant went 14-7½ to finish 63rd for the Bulldogs.

In the running events, Jacob Thomas had a couple of good performances, placing 32nd in the 55 meters with a time of 7.05 seconds and 44th in the 200 meters in 25.49 seconds. Cornia was right with Thomas in the 55 meters placing 36th in a time of 7.09 and then finishing 66th in the 200 meters in 26.3.

Other Lovell sprinters were Garcia placing 50th in the 55 meters in 7.18 seconds with Capers placing 130th in 7.64, Conners hitting the finish line in 8.21 seconds to place 173rd and Grady Henley finishing in 195th place with a time of 9.17. In the 200 meters Capers placed 65th with a time of 27.15, and Henley’s time was 38.36 to place him in 123rd place.

 

Other girls results

Competing along with Lindsay in the shot put for the Lady Bulldogs was Christina Zollman, who placed 35th with a throw of 27-7½. Claire Shumway led the way for Lovell in the long jump going 12-8 ¼ to place 41st, while Sofia Khan placed 50th with a mark of 11-9½. The top sprinter for the Lady Bulldogs was Toree Herman, who placed 80th in the 200 meters with a time of 31.42. She was followed by Shumway, who had a time of 33.35 to place 125th, and Daisy Carpenter finished in 133rd place with a time of 34.41 seconds.

In the 55 meters it was Carpenter placing 128th in a time of 9.04 seconds, Shumway finishing in 9.18 to place 137th and Khan crossing the finish line in 9.75 to place 152nd. Rick Jensen was the only distance runner for Lovell as he placed 14th with a time of 13:05.90.

The next meet for the Lovell indoor track and field teams will be in two weeks at the Basin Nation Invite on Friday, Feb. 6, in Gillette. The 3A State Indoor Track and Field Championships will also be held in Gillette at the Campbell County Recreation Center on Friday, March 6, and Saturday, March 7.
