Little League all-stars with strong showings in Cody
Both Big Horn County Little League Minors and Majors all-star teams traveled to Cody over the weekend to compete with other local teams in the All-Star Showdown.
The Minors team went 2-0-1 in pool play games after beating Powell 10-6, Greybull 15-4 and tying with Cody 6-6.
Seeding for Saturday’s bracket play left the Mustangs facing Powell in the opening round, where they held on for an 8-7 win to advance to the championship against the Cody Cubs.
Although the Mustangs out hit the Cubs 11-5, pitching woes in the final innings led to a 9-8 walk-off win for Cody.
Logan Timpany, Kooper May, Grayson Walker and Jace Grant all had two hits at the plate in the championship, while Esson Anderson, Austin Grandalen and Lincoln Miller had one apiece.
In Majors action, the Mustangs found success on Friday as they breezed through Greybull and Riverton with scores of 14-3 and 8-1. A late forfeiture by Lander in pool play left the Mustangs faced with playing them in the first round of the bracket on Saturday afternoon.
The game was back-and-forth between the two evenly matched teams, but Lander edged out the Mustangs 6-5.
Brhysan Henton looked dominant on the mound for the first four innings for Lovell, striking out 10 Lander batters, walking two and giving up four runs on four hits.
The score was locked up at 4-4, and Hayden Harshman closed out the final three innings. He struck out five, walked none and allowed two runs on five hits.
James Henderson was the only Mustang with multiple hits at the plate (two), while Harshman, Henton, Jace Jameson, Camden Blain, Spencer Walker and Adam Hill each had one hit.
