LMS athletes find success at conference track meet

This past Saturday, Lovell Middle School athletes were able to attend the Yellowstone Conference Track Meet in Worland. Athletes had the chance to compete against a few teams they had not yet seen at competitions, but this made good motivation for lots of hard work to place and beat personal records.

 

Eighth-grade boys

Isaac Sanders placed fourth in the 800-meter run as well as the 1,600-meter run. For the 800 meters, Sanders ran a 2:32.22. Sanders ran the 1,600 meters in 5:30.97, a personal best for him.

Oscar Garcia placed fifth just behind Sanders in the 1,600-meter run, completing this event in 5:40.87.

Zavier Heater also had a top five finish in the 200-meter hurdles, placing fifth in 32.34. 

The Lovell eighth-grade boys had a successful 4x400 relay team Saturday, running a time of 4:31.18, which put them into a first-place finish. 

Other Lovell eighth-grade boys results (top 10) were:

200m – Grant Rose seventh; 400m – Rose sixth; 800m – Oscar Garcia sixth, Ethan Hendershot ninth; 1600m – Hendershot seventh; shot put – Christian Garcia ninth, Isaac Blau 10th.

 

8th girls

Macie Anderson pulled through again in the events she performed in. Starting with the 100-meter dash, Anderson finished in first with a time of 13.66, a personal best for her. Later in the 200-meter dash, she raced to another first-place finish, running a time of 28.60. In the high jump, Anderson cleared 4-7, placing her in third for this event. To finish it all off, Anderson placed first once again in the long jump with a jump of 15-9.

Myles May also had a good meet in Worland. May placed first in the 100-meter hurdles event, running a 17.30. May went on to place third in the 200-meter hurdles with a time of 32.44. May also placed fifth in the long and triple jump, with distances of 14-4 and 29-5, respectively.

Shot put was a successful event for the LMS eighth-grade girls. Morgan Harshman threw 34-5, a personal record for her and a throw that put her into first place by almost five feet. Randi Ayotte threw 25-7.5, putting her in third place, with Daisy Carpenter close behind in fifth place with a throw of 24-6. Kelsey Mangus was also a top 10 placer with a ranking of ninth in the shot put.

400m – Toree Herman fifth; 800m – Gracie Angell fourth; 200m hurdles – Daisy Carpenter eighth; long Jump – Angell seventh; triple jump – Sofia Khan seventh; pole vault – Carpenter first; discus – Morgan Harshman third, Brynn lee Spanier fifth, Randi Ayotte sixth; 4x100 relay – fifth; 800m medley relay – fourth; 4x400 relay – third.

 

7th boys

Landen Peterson represented Lovell well at the throwing rings at the conference meet. Peterson started with a fourth-place finish in discus, throwing 85-3. He went on to throw 30-9.75 in the shot put, leading him to place first in this event.

Garrett Henley had three top five finishes at the meet. Starting with the 200-meter dash, Henley placed fifth with a time of 28.93. Soon after in the 400-meter dash, he placed third with a time of 1:02.45. Over at the jumping pits, Henley placed second in the triple jump, leaping 31-10.5.

Other Lovell seventh-grade boy results (top 10) were:

High jump – Bradley Mickelson fourth; long jump – Garrett Henley ninth; discus – Jordan Mangus seventh, Landon Asay ninth; shot put – Mangus fourth; 800m medley relay – fifth; 4x400 relay – fourth.

 

7th girls

Rubie Weber began the meet with a third-place finish in the 200-meter dash, running a 29.27, a personal record for Weber. On the field side of the events, Weber continued her success by placing first in the long jump with a leap of 15-2, another personal record for her. To finish off the meet, Weber jumped a 33-1 in the triple jump to leave her with another first place finish. 

Oakley Bischoff has been somewhat of an underrated athlete this year, but she had a pole vault performance that is worth mentioning. Bischoff cleared 6-6 in Worland, placing her in second and qualifying her for the Best of the Best meet.

Seventh-grade girls from Lovell Middle School once again had a successful 4x100 relay team, getting another first place finish with a time of 58.57.

100m – Oakley Anderson fourth; 200m – Anderson fourth; 400m – Greenlee Pillow ninth, Macee Winterholler 10th; 800m – Winterholler fifth; 100m hurdles – Anderson third, Janelle Asay fifth, Lillian Henley ninth; 200m hurdles – Asay seventh; long jump – Anderson fourth; triple jump – Harper Walker eighth; 800m medley relay – fifth; 4x400 relay – third.

 

6th boys

Despite it being his first year to run track, James Sanders has had an outstanding season in many of his events, but most of all in the 100-meter dash. To finish off the year, Sanders took first place once again in the 100, running a time of 13.62. Sanders later placed fifth in the long jump, jumping 11-8. 

Tre Clark shone at this conference meet by placing well in the high jump. Clark cleared 4-2, getting him to a personal best as well as a second-place finish.

Brhysan Henton is another athlete this week that was able to support the team with top 10 finisher points. Henton competed in the 100-meter dash, placing fifth with a time of 14.60. He went on to run a 30.21 200-meter race, which placed him in third for that event.

100m hurdles – Tre Clark 10th; long jump – Gage Angell 10th; triple jump – Angell sixth; discus – James Sanders eighth, Aiden George ninth; 800m medley relay – second; 4x400 relay – second.

 

6th girls

Triple jump was a high scoring event for the Lovell Middle School sixth-grade girls, with the jumpers adding a total of 26 points to their team’s score. Gemma Walker led the pack, placing first with a leap of 26-8.5. Emily Sanders was right behind her with a jump of 26-6, placing her in second. Not far behind in fourth place was Olivia Rael, who jumped 24-4. Kylie Nicholls added 3 points to the total by placing sixth.

Nellie Guccion placed second in her two events, the 800-meter and 1,600-meter runs. Guccion ran 2:45.16 in the 800 meters and 5:52.98 in the 1,600 to secure thes second-place finishes.

The sixth-grade girls ran 5:26.41 in their 4x400 relay, which left them with a first-place finish in the event. They also placed first in the 800-meter medley relay, running it in 2:21.46.

100m – Evalina Garcia fourth, Makynna Mayes seventh; 200m – Mayes third, Garcia fourth, Treleah Two Two sixth; 400m – Two Two third, Paige Asay fifth, Addyson Leonhardt ninth; 800m – Chloe Asay third, Two Two sixth; 1600m -- Chloe Asay third; 200m hurdles – Paige Asay eighth; long jump – Mayes second; pole vault – Emily Sanders first; 4x100 relay – third.

Though this was the last meet for many athletes on the Lovell Middle School track team, a few qualified and were able to attend the Best of the Best meet in Lander on Tuesday. See results in next week’s Chronicle.
