LMS cagers improve but fall to Worland
This week the middle school boys competed against Worland for the second time this season with the seventh graders hosting the Warriors Thursday and the eighth-grade squad traveling to Worland.
The seventh-grade A and B teams played a better game Thursday than they had previously. Though they both lost contests, they made the games a lot closer in this outing, putting more points on the board.
The A team fell by the score of 57-34, and the B team lost 32-9.
“The boys played with a lot more heart and energy,” coach Collin McArthur said. “We did a lot better breaking the press this time around.” The team should be proud of their improvement and continual growth within just a few weeks, he noted. McArthur said he is excited to see how the Bulldogs’ last games go over the next few weeks.
Eighth grade
The 8th grade A team played a tight game against the Warriors but came up short in the end, 36-33. On the bright side, Mac Morgan led the team with 14 points, and Reigo Romero added 7 points, Kannon Owens 6 for the Bulldogs.
The game was a good matchup. The Lovell boys had to switch up their defense in an effort to get Worland to take lower percentage outside shots, but they still struggled to stop one of Worland’s key players from driving to the hoop. The Bulldogs had strong moments of ball movement, but Coach Stephany Durtsche said, “The players lacked overall teamwork and were not giving enough defensive effort to win the game.”
She will have the team focus on trusting each other and putting the team’s needs ahead of individual play as they progress to the end of the season.
This week the Lovell eighth-grade A team will host Shoshoni in on Thursday at 4:15 p.m. Scheduled quads Saturday have been cancelled, but on Tuesday at 4:15 p.m. the Bulldogs will play Powell with the seventh-grade game in Lovell and the eighth-grade contest in Powell.
