LMS grapplers compete across state line
The Lovell Middle School Bulldog wrestling team has been working hard on the mat the past couple of weeks as they near the end of their season.
The team wrestled a triangular dual in Greybull against Rocky Mountain and Greybull-Riverside on November 14, then traveled to Powell November 16 to wrestle at the Powell Invitational. No official scores or places were recorded for either of these events.
Saturday, the team crossed the state line and traveled up to Montana to wrestle at the Laurel Invite. The Bulldogs faced tough competition from several Montanan and Wyoming schools.
Landon Asay placed second in the 105–107-pound weight class. He held a record of 2-1 this weekend, making it to the finals but losing to Garrett Davis of Powell.
Garrett Henley wrestled in the 116–121-pound weight class, ending up in second place this weekend. Henley pinned two of his opponents within the first period to land him in the finals, where he faced Auzzy Carter of Powell. A tough battle left Henley in second place with a 10-1 loss.
Grant Rose also finished in second on Saturday, wrestling in the 117–122-pound weight class. Rose went 2-1, losing to August Teten of Powell in the finals.
Vada Schmidt wrestled in the 115-124-pound girls weight class, ending the tournament in second place. Schmidt pinned her first two opponents to land her in the finals against Sage Wierzbicki of Fergus Middle School. A tough match ended in a sudden victory with a final score of 10-7, placing Schmidt in second place.
Other placers for the Laurel Invitational were:
Fourth: Isaac Blau, 130-139 pounds, 2-2 record; Emiliano Silva, 142-148 pounds, 2-2 record; Oakley Abraham, 55-63 Girls, 0-2 record.
The Bulldogs season ends at the conference meet in Thermopolis on December 7 at 10 a.m.
