The Lovell Bulldogs seventh grade girls basketball team hosted Powell Monday at the LMS Gym.

In the A game, Lovell lost 57-20, and while the Lady Bulldogs kept the game close through the first quarter, they fell behind by halftime, 35-13, and could never recover.

“Unfortunately, the Powell girls had too much firepower, but our girls played hard,” Coach Collin McArthur said.

The leading scorers for the A team were Emily Sanders and Gemma Walker, who led the team with 5 points each. Olivia Rael added 4 points, and Chloe Asay, Kylie Nicholls and Nellie Guccion scored 2 points apiece.

In the B game, the Bulldogs beat the Panthers 33-20. The game was very close in the first half with Lovell leading by a point, 13-12. But Lovell pulled ahead in the third quarter and did not look back as their defense was stingy, only allowing Powell to score 2 points in the third quarter.

“The B game went well, and all the girls were able to get a lot of playing time and experience,” McArthur said. “We didn’t give either group many breaks, but they did awesome at working through it and playing hard.”

The scorers for the B team were Addyson Leonhardt with 11 points, Gemma Walker with 8, Chloe Asay 6, MaKynna Mayes 5 and Paige Asay with 3. McArthur said he has seen much improvement from day one, and he appreciates the players’ diligence and good attitudes.

The Lady Bulldogs played a quad in Powell Friday, falling to Cody 44-11 and Powell 58-18. After the holiday break, they will travel to Worland Tuesday for a 4:15 p.m. tip-off.
