Local churches to hold special Easter services

Christian churches in North Big Horn County will celebrate the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ this week and next with a variety of special services, culminating with Easter on Sunday, April 20.

At St. John’s Lutheran Church, Rev. Jacob Benson will lead prayer services next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, April 14-16, at 6:30 p.m., followed by a Maundy Thursday Divine Service at 6:30 p.m. on April 17. A Chief Service will be held on Good Friday at noon.

Easter Sunday at St. John’s will feature a sunrise vigil at 6 a.m. An Easter Divine Service will be directed by Rev. Benson at 9:30 a.m.

Lovell United Methodist Church pastor Rev. Janita Krayniak will lead a Palm Sunday service this Sunday including a parade of palms, followed by a Maundy Thursday “service for all the senses” April 17 at 5 p.m. and a Good Friday Journey to the Cross service with self-guided prayer stations April 18 at 5 p.m., as well.

Pastor Krayniak will lead an Easter resurrection service April 20 at 9 a.m.

Father Andrew Kinstetter will lead Holy Week services at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lovell as follows:

Palm Sunday Mass, April 13 at 11 a.m.; Holy Thursday, April 17: Mass from 7-8 p.m., Adoration from 8 p.m. to midnight; Good Friday: Passion of Our Lord, noon, and Stations of the Cross, 3 p.m. Father Kinstetter will lead a Saturday Easter Vigil Mass April 19 at 8:30 p.m. and an Easter Sunday Mass at 11 a.m. at the church in Lovell.

Bible Church Pastor Kurt McNabb will lead a Palm Sunday service April 13 at 9 a.m. with the choir singing “All For Us” and an Easter service Sunday, April 20, with a message celebrating the resurrection of Christ at 9 a.m.

Pastor Johannes Slabbert of Cowley’s Water of Life Church will hold an Easter Sunday sunrise service at Frog Rock on Road 5 in the Sand Hills between Cowley and Byron on April 20 with a fire and donuts and hot drinks offered. Check the church Facebook page for the time.

Pastor Slabbert will then lead an Easter service at 10:30 a.m. at the church in Cowley.

Pastor Dan Jarvis of the Lovell Assembly of God Church will lead an Easter Sunday service at 11 a.m. April 20, and Church of God pastor Gerald Cox will follow with an Easter Sunday service at the Assembly of God building at 1 p.m.

Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will hold a sacrament meeting only on Easter Sunday at the eight wards in North Big Horn County. Meeting times are as follows:

Cowley First Ward, 9 a.m.; Second Ward, 11:30 a.m.

Byron Ward, 9 a.m.

Lovell First Ward, 11:30 a.m., West Chapel; Second Ward, 12:30 p.m., East Chapel; Third Ward, 10:30 a.m. in Byron; Fourth Ward, 9 a.m., West Chapel; Fifth Ward, 10 a.m., East Chapel.
