Local students attend career fair at Northwest College

Northwest College recently hosted a unique high school career fair sponsored by Wyoming’s University-to-School Partnership. The day kicked off with a keynote address by Megan Nickels, a member of the NWC Board of Trustees, who encouraged students to explore their passions and think about their futures.

Attending the fair were grade 9-12 students from Rocky Mountain, Burlington, Lovell, Riverside, Greybull, Meeteetse and Ten Sleep. The event was led by Big Horn School District No. 1 and was supported by a team of key partners including Sally Bernhisel, Chawna Wiechmann, Colby Gull, Nicholas Jessee, Kendal Jeffs and others from the University of Wyoming, all of whom played a vital role in making the fair a success.

Professionals traveled from across the Big Horn Basin, Laramie and even from as far as Upstate New York to share their expertise. Each presenter led a 35-minute session introducing students to their field, covering not only the nature of the work but also the education, training and personal stories that shaped their careers. 

What set this fair apart was its hands-on component. Presenters were encouraged to let students “do” as well as “hear” -- offering interactive activities that brought their careers to life. Each professional shared some challenges and benefits of their careers, and students were immersed in active learning and meaningful exploration.

It was a day filled with lots of practical knowledge, real-world connections and ways to bridge the gap between school and the many opportunities that await after graduation.
