Local swimmers continue to excel for Powell team
On Friday, Jan. 9, the Powell High School boys swimming team traveled to Cody where they competed in a quad with Riverton, Cody, Worland and Newcastle.
Lovell senior Hugh Carpenter placed second and the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:03.91 and third in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:47.19.
Rocky Mountain senior Will Fuller placed fourth in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 56.26 and fifth in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:11.59. Lovell junior Gabe Buchholz placed seventh in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:11.29 and seventh in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:32.90.
All three boys also competed in the 200-yard medley relay, which took fourth, and the 400-yard freestyle relay, which placed second.
Rocky sophomore Ethan Haslem placed 19th in the 50-yard freestyle.
On Saturday, the boys competed in the Gene Dozah Invite. Fuller placed second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.80 and third in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:05.65. Carpenter placed first in the 100-yard fly with a time of 58.57 and fourth in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:02.46.
Buchholz placed ninth in the 100-yard fly and 10th in the 200-yard free. Haslem placed 16th in the 100-yard breaststroke and 20th in the 100-yard freestyle.
After swimming in Worland this Friday and Saturday, the Panthers will hold their final home meet on Friday, Jan. 23, followed by the Lander Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 24.
