Lois Marie Hess

Lois Marie Hess, 90, of Riverton, Wyoming, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2025, at Wind River Rehab and Wellness in Riverton.

Lois was born January 8, 1935, in Douglas, Wyoming, to William Henry Brush and Frances Elizabeth (Larson) Brush. She grew up and attended Morton School and graduated from Riverton High School in 1953, where she was honored to serve as homecoming queen in 1952 and was also a drum majorette.

She married Warren C. Hess on February 2, 1977, in Riverton, and together they shared 48 wonderful years of marriage. They made their home in Riverton for the past 50 years, after also living in Rock Springs and Casper, Wyoming.

Lois was employed by Fremont County School District #25 in Riverton, where she worked as a payroll clerk for more than 25 years. She was a proud and active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), a patriotic organization dedicated to historic preservation, education and promoting love of country.

Faith and family were central to Lois’s life. She was a devoted member of Lighthouse Bible Church in Riverton, where she joyfully served as church pianist and choir member for many years. She and her husband, Warren, often sang together at church services; one of their favorite songs to share was “The Lighthouse.” Lois loved to travel with Warren and treasured every opportunity to share fellowship and music with others.

Lois is survived by her loving husband, Warren Hess, of Riverton; her sons, Robert Chopping and wife, Diana, of Prescott Valley, Arizona, and Jerry Chopping and wife, Barbara, of Riverton, Wyoming; her daughter, Shirlee Chopping, of Las Vegas, Nevada; her stepdaughters, Susan Peck and husband, David, of Lovell and Sandra Pickering and husband, Marshal, of Port Saint Lucie, Florida; her grandchildren, Monica Bezy, David Svoboda, Mark Chopping, Adam Chopping, Jenny Kimsey, Rachel Braese, Ryan Pickering, Danielle Shaffer and Hannah Pickering; nine great-grandchildren; and her sister-in-law, Margaret Hess.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Frances Brush; her three brothers, Burton, Bob and Richard Brush; and her granddaughter, Jamie Chopping.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 13, 2025, at Lighthouse Bible Church in Riverton. Burial followed at Mountain View Cemetery in Riverton.
