Lovell Branch Library welcomes summer fun with activities for all ages

The Lovell Branch Library has an array of activities lined up for the summer that offers preschools through adults an active, creative and social learning environment for the summer. 

“With our mission statement to encourage lifelong learning, I feel that we are providing that opportunity through that with all of our programs,” said Lovell Branch Library manager Cathleen Collins.

The library will run their summer reading program through June 30 with the theme “Unearth a Story.” This program offers a range of activities broken up into different age groups throughout the month. 

Their opening event, “Stomp! Chomp! Sip! Opening Tea Party!” was held on June 2 at 1 p.m.  Other events for the summer reading program include:

June 4, Bedrock Bracelets for 14 and up at 4 p.m.; June 9, Prehistoric Prance for preschool at 10:30 a.m.; June 9, Party Like a T-Rex for kindergarten through third grade at 1 p.m.; June 11, Paleo Art Lab for fourth through eighth grade at 1 p.m.; June 16, Dinosaur Starts with D for preschool at 10:30 a.m.; June 16, Tasty Terrain for kindergarten through third grade at 1 p.m.; June 18, Ash Dig and Puffy Peak for fourth through eighth grade at 1 p.m.; June 23, Dino Dough Discovery for preschool at 10:30 a.m.; June 23 Cody Museum Presents When Raptors Ruled for all ages at 1 p.m.; June 23, Stampasaurus Stomp, Dig A Saurus for kingergarten through third grade at 2:30 p.m., June 25, Dinomite Creations for fourth through eighth grade at 1 p.m.; June 30, The Grand Finale Fun Fair for all ages at 1 p.m.

Friends of Lovell Library, as well as other patrons in the community, have donated to help fund the library to bring the community activities including the summer reading program. 

The library has also received a grant from the Wyoming Arts Council. With this grant, the library will be able to host art activities and put together art kits for kids to take home. These kits will be handed out throughout the summer while supplies last.

Starting on the second week of June and following through the end of the summer, the library invites preschoolers every Wednesday at 10:15 a.m. to do “Jammers.” This is an activity that is also put on in coordination with the Children Resource Center during that school year that gets preschoolers moving to music.

Moving into July, dates and times of activities are subject to change. Updates can be found on the library Facebook page and will be posted on the doors at the library.

Throughout the month of July, treats ranging from popsicles to popcorn will be handed out a couple of times a week. The library also plans on collaborating with BOOST to bring weekly activities in celebration of the 250^th anniversary of the United States. On July 30, the library welcomes teenagers to participate in team games.

In August, the Lovell Branch Library plans to use funds they received from the Big Horn County Library Foundation to host a Sherlock Holmes activity for elementary and middle schoolers.

All these events are free to attend as the library welcomes community members of all ages to come and enjoy the activities they have to offer this summer. 

“We do love to see everybody come to the library,” said Collins, “We are happy and eager to help people be creative and learn.”
