Lovell Bulldogs secure second at Shoshoni Wrangler Duals

Coming back from winter break, the Lovell Bulldogs had a successful weekend, wrestling sets of duals against several teams at the Lovell Triangular and the Zach Perish Shoshoni Wrangler Duals.
Friday evening, the Bulldogs welcomed Rocky Mountain and Greybull/Riverside into their home gymnasium to wrestle a triangular dual. Competing against Rocky Mountain first, the team worked through each of their opponents and beat the Grizzlies 64-16. Lovell tacked on another win against Greybull/Riverside, 51-27. Head wrestling coach Ty Hecker commented on the team’s performance Friday night, stating that the wrestlers showed up big for their first home dual and put a show on for the Lovell fans.
“I saw a lot of want and high energy,” Hecker said. “I was impressed with our team coming back strong after a long break.”
After a successful evening, the Bulldogs traveled to Shoshoni the next day to compete in the Wrangler Duals. The team started their morning by defeating Worland 66-18. Afterwards, the team left their next opponent, Wyoming Indian, no room to score with an 83-0 win.
Lovell continued to forge a path of wins, beating Saratoga 66-17 and Wind River 45-33.
“We wrestled tough this weekend with our only loss being to Big Piney,” Hecker said. Lovell’s 48-36 loss to Big Piney landed the team in second place for the tournament.
Hecker highlighted three wrestlers this weekend who helped raise the score for their team by going undefeated at the duals: Carson Asay, James Love and Mason Christenson.
Senior Asay went undefeated this weekend, and Hecker noted, “Asay put a pace and overwhelmed every opponent he faced.” Impressed with his performance, Hecker said he watched Asay wrestle the best he’s seen him wrestle in his entire high school career.
Senior Love also went undefeated this weekend.
“Love is starting to wrestle like he is ready to win State,” Hecker said. “There’s a lot of work to do, but I believe he’s willing to do it.”
Sophomore Christenson was the third Bulldog who scored points for his team by going undefeated. Hecker noted that Christenson seemed to turn over a new leaf over the holidays.
“His spirits are high, and with as much talent as he has, I have high hopes for the rest of this season,” Hecker said.
This weekend the team will travel to Pavillion to compete in the Don Runner Memorial Tournament. The event will start at noon Friday and carry over to Saturday at 9 a.m.
