Lovell firemen attend structure fire training

Members of the Lovell Volunteer Fire Department gathered at the former Heber Asay farm east of Lovell Monday evening for structure fire training, using Asay’s former and currently unoccupied home for the training.

Fire Chief Zach Blain said the training was conducted internally, with firefighters already having the specialized training teaching their comrades.

Blain said the goal of the training was to “improve response time and have a more coordinated and efficient response” for structure fires.

The training began around 5:30 p.m. and wrapped up by 9:30, after which the firemen gathered at the fire hall for cleanup, Blain said.

Blain said 24 firemen attended the training, which was led by himself, assistant chief Lynn Hitz, captain Kyle Leithead, Russ Wilkerson, Bryce Dickerson, Scotty Leonhardt and Jacob Bassett.

The use of the house was granted by current property owner Richard Walker, who generously donated the structure for use by the firemen before he tears the house down.
