The Lovell freshman boys and girls basketball teams have been competing in several games recently.
The Lady Bulldogs split with Powell and Worland this week, falling short to the Lady Panthers 45-32 then dominated the Lady Warriors 47-18 at home on Tuesday.
Celeste Lindsay led the way against Powell, scoring 10 points in the contest. Hannity Felkins had 8 points, Kira Collins 5, Jenna Hessenthaler 4, Kindle Collins and Brooklin Clark 2 each and Kaydree Owens 1.
“The girls fought hard against Powell, but we just came up short,” Lovell freshman coach Dan Wolvington said. “But I’m happy with how we responded against Worland.”
Against the Lady Warriors, both Lindsay and Clark scored 10 points. Kira Collins was right behind them with 8 points, followed by Kandace Asay with 7, Owens 6, Felkins 5 and Kindle Collins 1.
Freshman boys
The Lovell Bulldog freshmen had an additional game when the team traveled to Thermopolis on Friday to play.
The Bulldogs pulled together in the end and took down the Bobcats, 39-35.
“It was a great team win,” freshman coach Michael Jameson said. “We struggled against their size but went into a 2-3 zone and the kids did excellent at shutting down their post players.”
Cash Wassmer led the way offensively, scoring 11 points. Declan Mayes added 8 points, Jaxen Clark 6, and the trio of Nate Cornia, Tazz McArthur and Sam Mayes
all had 4, while Dean Anderson had 2.
“We hit some crucial shots down the stretch and were able to get a tough, come-from-behind win on the road,” Jameson added.
On Monday, they faced the Powell Panthers at home and lost 39-22.
“We were missing a few kids to illness and need to work on knocking down free throws and being more productive offensively,” Jameson said.
Clark was able to score 9 points in the game. Wassmer added 7, McArthur 4, and Cornia and Declan Mayes had 1 apiece.
To wrap it up, the Bulldogs earned another exciting victory at home on Tuesday over the Worland Warriors, 37-34.
Declan Mayes had the hot hand to score 10 points in the contest. Both McArthur and Wassmer finished with 8, Cornia 7, and Wilson Hendershot and Clark added 2 each.
