A pair of local rivals went toe to toe Tuesday night in a battle of freshman boys squads. Lovell hosted Rocky Mountain and came away with a 45-35 win following a spirited battle.

The two rivals were tied 13-13 after the first quarter, but Lovell took a 21-16 halftime lead with an 8-3 second-quarter advantage. Lovell edged Rocky 11-9 in the third and 13-10 in the fourth to gain the 10-point victory.

Kannon Owens led the Bulldogs with 16 points, and Hudson Miller added 9 points, Aaiden Walker and Mike Cornia 6, Mason Leithead 5 and Easton Morgan 3.

Jaxx May led the Grizzlies with 21 points, nine rebounds and six steals, and Jaxson Sponsel and Cooper Ward added 6 points each, Kreegan Jones 2.

“In the first half, I felt like we came out and executed a lot of our plays and got some good looks,” Rocky Mountain coach Taylor Winland said.

“Lovell buckled down in the second half defensively and made it tough to get open shots. We are getting to the second half of our C team season, where we start to play teams again for a second time. It has been great seeing the boys continue to grow each game.”

The Grizzly freshmen will host Powell Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
