The Lovell High School freshman girls basketball team wrapped up a successful 2024-25 season with three games in recent weeks, winning two of the three.

Playing at Powell Tuesday, Feb. 11, the Lady Bulldogs fell 53-37. Lovell struggled offensively early in the game, trailing 17-2 after the first period. The Lady Bulldogs clawed their way back by outscoring Powell 15-4 in the second quarter to trail 21-17 at halftime, but Powell outscored Lovell 32-20 in the second half.

Ava Edwards led the Lady Bulldogs with 12 points, and Ali Walker added 9 points, Avery Walker 8, Caylee Herman and Addie Weber 3 each, Jaycie Allen 2.

“Powell’s physicality and ball pressure overwhelmed us,” head coach Gretchen Walker said. “We struggled to get anything going offensively. However, the girls fought back from an ugly first quarter to bring it within four at halftime.

“In the second half, we just had too many turnovers to be able to compete. We always know it will be a physical game when we play this team, especially on their home court.”

The Lady Bulldogs hosted Greybull February 17 and edged the lady Buffs 41-36. Lovell once again got off to a slow start and trailed 17-6 after the first quarter but reversed fortunes in the second quarter to outscore the visitors 15-4 in the second to knot the score 21-21 at halftime. Greybull won the third quarter 9-4 to lead 30-25 after three, but Lovell carried the fourth 16-6 to win by five.

Herman scored 12 points for the Lady Bulldogs, Ali Walker 9, Kira Collins 7, Avery Walker and Kandace Asay 5 each and Edwards 3.

“Greybull was scheduled as a freshman game, but we were really playing their JV squad. The freshmen have had some sickness and injuries, and knowing we were going to be playing against older girls, we asked sophomores Kandace Asay and Kira Collins to play with us,” Walker said. “They really stepped in and helped us win a tight game. Once again, we allowed ourselves to get buried in the first quarter but steadily worked our way back into the game.

“Caylee Herman had a great game for us tonight and scored a season high 12. I felt like we struggled to score at times, but our defense made the difference in the end.”

Hosting Cody Monday, Feb. 24, the Lady Bulldogs pulled away for a 37-19 win. Lovell led 7-5 after the first quarter, 17-10 at halftime and 25-16 after three, then dominated the Fillies in the fourth 12-3 to win by 18. Edwards led a balanced attack with 12 points, and Ali Walker added 8, Avery Walker 7, Herman 6 and Allen and Christina Zollman 2 apiece.
