Lovell indoor thinclads off to solid start
A large field of 22 teams provided some outstanding performances Saturday at the Campbell County Indoor Track and Field Invitational in Gillette, and the Lovell Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs had some strong performances to start the new season.
Coach Lindsay Lindsay was pleased with the team’s performance, saying, “We started off our season strong this past weekend with several solid performances from our team.”
Gavin Robertson had the best performance for the Bulldogs with an impressive jump of 19-7½ in the long jump to place fifth in the all-class field. The jump was a new personal record for Robertson and has him currently in second in the Class 3A rankings.
Another good performance for the Bulldogs was turned in by A.J. Clark in the 800 meters. Clark placed 18th with a time of 2:22.41. He also ran well in the 1,600 meters, placing 24th in a time of 5:13.41.
Senior Adnan Khan placed 19th in the 55 meters in a time of 6.97, and Jared Mangus was 46th in 7.15. Three other Bulldogs competing in the 55 meters were Robertson, placing 47th in a time of 7.16, Bruce Whitebuffalo, who finished 104th in 7.52, and Jett Hessenthaler, who was 160th in 8.26 seconds.
In the 200 meters Robertson placed 36th with a time of 25.68, Whitebuffalo was 78th in 27.17 and Hessenthaler was 135th, running the 200 in 31.18. Thane Zollman ran the 400 meters for the Bulldogs and finished in 57th place with a time of 1:11.44. He also competed in the 1,600 meters, placing 58th in 6:08.25.
Another Bulldog setting a new personal record was Halen Strom, who threw 38-8½ to place 20th in the shot put. Other Bulldogs in the shot put were Elijah Montanez placing 43rd with a throw of 34-10½ and Sam Cordova, whose throw of 27-4½ placed him 78th out of 95 throwers.
For the Lady Bulldogs, Carissa Lindsay started off her Indoor season well with a throw of 33-3¼, making the finals and placing ninth. She is currently the third ranked thrower in Class 3A.
Hallie Cornia competed well in the jumps, placing 22nd in the triple jump with a mark of 27-8 and 64th in the long jump with a jump of 10-4½.
In the sprints, Kaitlynn Robison placed 97th out of 206 runners in the 55 meters with a time of 8.56 seconds and 68th in the 200 meters in 31.06.
As Lovell prepares for their next meet on Saturday, Feb. 2, at the Basin Nation Invitational in Casper, Coach Lindsay commented that, “We had several PRs from several athletes this week, and are looking forward to building on our current performances and continuing to better ourselves each week.”
