Lovell Library wins county penny contest

The Lovell Library has officially won the penny contest by the generosity of the local community. The goal of the contest was to raise money for the competing libraries. All the money raised in the competition will stay at that specific library’s location. Along with that, the library with the most raised money was awarded a back-to-school party hosted by the other two libraries.

Thanks to the community, Lovell raised the most money with $511.30. Second was Greybull raising $315.56, and following was Basin at $248.89. The library staff members are very grateful for all that was donated, according to library manager Cathleen Collins, and are very excited for the party.

The party with be held on Monday, Aug. 11, at 11 a.m. at the Lovell Branch library.

Some more updates for the library are the hour changes. Due to some county budget cuts, the library has had to cut five of their opening hours. The new hours are Monday-Thursday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday 1-5 p.m.

There is also some August fun coming up. School is starting soon, but the library still has a few more activities to soak up the last bit of summer. The Tuesday story time at 10:30 a.m. is continuing. In past years, the story time ended in August, but it will be staying on.

On August 15 there will be Lego club. Kids can come and build with Legos, and their names will be added to a drawing. Every month a name is drawn from the bucket and that child is awarded a prize. Every six month they’ll do a grand prize, and any name still left in the bucket is eligible for drawing.

Just a reminder for the library: They do have an online library. With your library card you can check out e-books or check out books from other libraries in the county. Park County is also included in that checkout, but it may take a little longer for it to get here. Community members are also reminded that the library has more than just books. The Lovell Library also has movies to check out as well as puzzles and games.
