The Lovell Middle School Bulldog volleyball teams have endured matches this past week against several schools from Worland, Powell and Cody.

Earlier last Tuesday, the Bulldogs played the Worland Warriors. The seventh grade A team swept the Warriors, winning all three sets 25-12, 25-1 and 15-13.

“It was a great team effort during the A game,” stated head seventh-grade coach Marci Durtsche. “We passed well as a team, and Worland really struggled to get the ball up when we served.”

The seventh-grade B team followed the A team with another win, taking the match 25-17, 25-23 and 15-11.

The eighth-grade teams also stayed tough on the court against their opponents. The A team defeated the Warriors 25-6, 25-10, 15-6. Though the eighth-grade B team fought hard, they ended up losing their game 2-1.

That following Saturday, the Bulldogs played a variety of matches against the teams of Cody and Powell.

The seventh-grade A team won against both teams at the quad, beating Powell 2-1 in sets, 25-12, 22-25, 15-18.

“Powell stole this one away from us, because we really struggled serving in that game,” Coach Durtsche stated, referring to the second set that was lost to Powell.

The team went on to play Cody, taking control of the court once more to win 25-17, 25-16, 16-14.

“The Cody game was really exciting and was back and forth. They were the first team that really hit against us, so it was fun to see how my girls played the net,” Coach Durtsche said. “They got some key blocks and were also getting good hits during the matches.

The seventh-grade B team also defeated the Powell Panthers 2-1, going 25-23, 22-25 and 15-13. When facing off against the Cody Fillies, the team fought hard but fell short with scores of 16-25, 18-25 and 12-15.

The eighth-grade A team went undefeated Saturday, sweeping both teams off the court. The A team did not leave room for Powell to score, winning all three sets 25-7, 25-13 and 15-6. Following that, the A team beat Cody 25-17, 25-22 and 15-13.

“Our first challenge of the season came against Cody on Saturday,” said head eighth-grade coach Tiffany Anderson. “We got down quite a bit, but the girls fought hard and showed a lot of grit and resiliency to come back and win.”

The eighth-grade B team played a hard game but lost to Powell 25-19, 13-25, 13-15. The B team also lost to Cody 14-25, 15-25 and 10-15.

The next games for the Bulldogs will be on Tuesday, Sept. 24, when the seventh graders
host Worland and the eighth graders travel to Worland. The matches tip off at 4:15 p.m.
