Lovell Middle School Bulldogs wrap up their season in Lander
The final meet for the Lovell Middle School track athletes was last Tuesday (May 12) in Lander. To compete in this meet, athletes had to hit a qualifying mark at other meets throughout the season. Despite missing a few meets due to weather, 38 athletes were able to qualify to do the Best of the Best meet. In this meet, sixth graders compete against seventh grade athletes.
“We ended up taking 38 kids to Best of the Best where we had multiple top 5 finishers, but also first and second place finishers,” coach Colin McArthur stated.
On the boys side, seventh grader Brhysan Henton placed third in high jump. Henton cleared the five foot pole to secure his place.
Seventh grader Dax Mangus also placed third, but in the long jump event. Mangus jumped 16-0.75 in this event.
Other Lovell Middle School boys results (top ten) were:
200m- Brhysan Henton ninth; 400m- Garrett Henley seventh; 200 hurdles- James Henderson ninth; high jump- Dax Mangus seventh; long jump- Dallas Romero sixth; triple jump- Henley eighth; pole vault- Hayden Harshman sixth; discus- Landon Asay ninth.
Lovell sixth grader Blakely Piper continued her success at the Best of the Best meet. Despite competing against seventh graders, Piper placed first in the 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash and the 100 meter hurdles. Piper ran 13.22 in the 100 and 27.42 in the 200. A time of 16.25 put Piper in first in the 100 hurdles event.
Seventh graders Nellie Guccion and Chloe Asay finished out the season right next each other in the long distance events similar to the rest of the season. Guccion placed first in the 800 meter run, running a 2:23.79. A time of 2:35.44 put Asay in second. Guccion ran 5:21.85 in the 1,600 meter run, placing her in first. Asay ran 5:47.56 to secure her spot in second place.
Eighth grader Oakley Anderson placed second in the 100 meter dash, running a time of 13.57. Teammate Oakley Bischoff had similar success, placing second in pole vault by clearing 7-6.

100m- Charlize Hessenthaler eighth; 200- Oakley Anderson seventh, Hessenthaler eighth; 400m- Macee Winterholler eighth, Chloe Asay ninth, Treleah Two Two tenth; 800- Winterholler sixth; 100m hurdles- Anderson sixth, Janelle Asay ninth; seventh grade 4x100- first; high jump- Janelle Asay eighth; long jump- Hessenthaler fourth, MaKynna Mayes seventh; triple jump- Rubie Weber fifth, Gemma Walker sixth, Laney Felkins eighth, Emily Sanders tenth; pole vault- Sanders sixth, Kylie Nicholls seventh.
“We couldn’t be happier with the effort we saw this year from the kids and the support from all of their parents,” McArthur said. “We would like to thank everyone for this season and for the opportunities they provided to allow our kids to compete each week.”
