Lovell Middle School grapplers show well at Powell Invitational
The Lovell Middle School wrestling team competed at the Powell Invitational Saturday, and though the Bulldogs faced many tough opponents, several wrestlers finished on top.
In the girls division, Angelina Lauhoff placed fourth in the 73–76-pound weight class, winning one of four matches.
“Several sixth graders stepped up and wrestled in the A Division for the first time at the match, and really wrestled tough,” said coach Quinton Hecker.
In the A Division, Landon Asay competed in the 115-pound weight class and earned fourth place, winning one of four matches. At 138, Garrett Henley took first place, finishing with three of three matches won. In the 155-pound class, Connor Harris placed fourth, winning two of four matches. The 190-pound weight class had two Lovell wrestlers: Jordan Mangus, who placed fourth, and Alexander Mcillwaine, who took first place each of his three matches.
In the B Division, Sean Leece placed third in the 75–78 weight class, winning one of three matches. In the 79–81 division, Dalton Moss finished fourth. Lionel Two Two also placed fourth in the 82–88 class. At 102–106 pounds, Abiel Torres finished fourth, winning one of his four matches. In the 115-pound division, Braxton Layne earned second place, winning two of his three matches. At 122–128, Corbin Henley placed fourth. Britt Asay took first place in the 129–133 weight class, going undefeated in the tournament with three of three matches won. Isaiah Leal earned third place in the 145–151 division, finishing with one win out of three matches.
Coach Hecker said he was very proud of the team’s effort progress, noting, “Overall we wrestled good. We keep improving, and I’m excited to see the wrestlers compete at these next few competitions.”
Leading up to conference, the wrestlers will host Rocky and Greybull today (Thursday) at 4 p.m. Saturday, they will compete at the Laurel Invite at 10 a.m.
