Lovell Middle School’s history and geography team turned in an impressive performance at the Regional Geography Bee held March 14 in Casper, with multiple students earning top finishes and qualifying for the next level of competition.

The event, hosted by the Wyoming Science Bowl in Casper, brought together top students from across the region. With their results, all participating Lovell students have qualified to compete at both the National and International Geography Bee competitions later this year.

In the History Bee, Jackson Sanders earned first place, while Dagan Rueter finished second. Rueter, who is homeschooled, practiced with the Lovell Geography Bee Club during FLEX time.

Rueter also took top honors in the Geography Bee, finishing in first place, followed by Jackson Sanders in second and Jordan Mangus in third.

Lovell Middle School Principal Lydia McCracken said the program provides students with valuable opportunities to grow.

“The Geography and History Bees provide a place for students to showcase their knowledge and skills in a fun and engaging way,” McCracken said. “Students gain valuable skills as they prepare to compete, such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and developing their understanding of the global world. Plus, they have opportunities to win scholarships and prizes, and to compete at the national and international levels. It’s such a great opportunity for students.”

The team is coached by Stephany Durtsche, and the strong showing reflects both individual achievement and the continued strength of the Lovell Middle School program.
