Lovell Middle School thinclads enjoy success in Cowley

The Lovell Middle School track athletes had their second track meet of the season on Friday, April 25, at Rocky Mountain Middle/High School. This meet was very different from the previous Shoshoni meet, having only seven teams attend and limited entries on the events. Lovell athletes were able to shine at the meet, and all of their hard work can be seen in the results. 

The Lovell eighth-grade boys placed fourth overall, even though they were missing some of their key athletes. Despite this, they still had good representation in Cowley.

Zavier Heater ran a 33.37 to place first in the 200-meter hurdles, adding 10 points to his team’s score. Heater also placed 10th in the 100-meter dash earlier in the meet.

Isaac Sanders was successful in his events this past weekend, placing second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:30.62 and winning the 1,600 meters in 5:34.88.

Oscar Garcia was a close second to Sanders in the 1,600 with a time of 5:36.20, adding 8 points to the team’s total.

The eighth-grade boys had three relay teams participate in events for this meet, all placing in the top two. They placed second in the 4x100 relay with a time of 56.61 and second again in the 800-meter medley relay, running a time of 2:16.94. The boys also competed in the 4x400 relay, taking 1st place with a time of 5:07.40.

Other Lovell eight grade boys results (top 10) were:

100m dash- Jasper Lopez sixth; 200m dash- Grant Rose fourth, Lopez eighth; 400m dash- Rose sixth, Ethan Hendershot seventh; 800 meters- Hendershot sixth; 1,600 meters- Hendershot seventh; Long jump- Connor Grant fifth; Discus- Mike Cornia fourth, Christian Garcia fifth, Isaac Blau tenth; Shot put- Garcia seventh, Cornia eighth. 

For the Lovell eighth- grade girls, the Rocky Mountain meet seemed to be a breeze as their team placed first, scoring 162 points.

Macie Anderson added a lot of points to the board by doing well in her many events. In the 100-meter dash, Anderson ran a 14.09, placing her in first. In the 200 meters, Anderson also placed first with a time of 29.31. Anderson also represented Lovell well in the jumps, winning both high jump and long jump with leaps of 4-6 and 14-6.75, respectively.

It was also a successful meet for Myles May, who won two events and placed top five in two others. May ran a 17.85 to place her in first in the 100-meter hurdles event. May later took first again in the 200-meter hurdles, running a 33.39. At the jumping pits, May jumped 13-1 in long jump, taking her to a second-place finish. To place fourth in triple jump, May leaped 29-9.75.

Morgan Harshman took first place in discus, throwing 81-6.5. Harshman also threw shot put at the track meet, also placing first. Harshman threw 30-11.25, beating the second place competition by more than four feet.

Other Lovell eighth grade girls results (top 10) were:

100m dash - Gracie Angell fourth, Alynna Monterde ninth; 200-meter dash - Toree Herman fourth, Brynnlee Spanier fifth, Monterde sixth; 400 meters - Angell second, Herman fourth; 800 meters -  Eliza Wagner second; triple jump - Angell sixth, Sofia Khan 10th; discus - Spanier fourth, Randi Ayotte sixth; shot put - Ayotte third, Kelsey Mangus fifth.

The seventh-grade boys from Lovell placed second overall, barely behind Rocky Mountain Middle School by one-third of a point.

Garrett Henley placed fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 14.39. Henley later secured first place in the 400-meter race, running a 1:06.02. To add to his top five finish streak, Henley jumped 14-5 in the long jump, putting him in second for that event. To finish off the day right, Henley took first in the triple jump with a leap of 32-10.

Bradley Mickelson added to the team’s point total by bringing in two first place finishes. In the high jump, Mickelson jumped 4-8, and a 14-7.5 leap locked in another first place for Mickelson in the long jump.

Landen Peterson represented Lovell at the throwing rings with a first-place finish in discus with a throw of 79-8 and a second-place finish in shot put with a throw of 29-7.

Other Lovell seventh-grade boys results (top 10) were:

400 meters - Britt Asay 10th; 800 meters - Asay fifth; 1,600 meters - Jackson Sanders fourth; long jump - Mason Kitchen fifth; triple jump - Landon Asay fourth; discus - Jordan Mangus third, Landon Asay sixth; shot put - Landon Asay fourth, Mangus sixth.

Combined with the sixth-grade girls, the seventh-grade girls team placed first at the Rocky Mountain meet. 

Oakley Anderson ran the 100-meter dash in 14.46, and that placed her in first in the event. Anderson also participated in the 200-meter dash and secured a second-place finish with a time of 30.58. Anderson went on to run the 100-meter hurdles in 19.73 to put her in fourth. Anderson later placed third in the high jump with her 3-8 jump. 

Rubie Weber once again showed up for the seventh-grade girls, starting by winning the 200-meter dash with a time of 30.22. Weber later placed first in long jump with a leap of 14-2, and a 32-2.5 jump in triple jump earned her another first place.

The 400-meter dash was a successful event for the seventh-grade girls. Lovell took the first three places in this event, adding to the victory for the team. Treleah Two Two placed first in the 400m dash with a time of 1:14.38, with Macee Winterholler right behind her, running the 400 in 1:15.44. Third place in this event was Greenlee Pillow, following her teammates with a 1:17.85.

100m dash - Laney Felkins sixth, Oakley Bischoff eighth, Evalina Garcia 10th; 200m dash - Greenlee Pillow ninth; 800 meters - Macee Winterholler third, Treleah Two Two fifth; 100m hurdles - Janelle Asay seventh; 200m hurdles - Asay third; long jump - Felkins fifth, Riley Henley sixth, Harper Walker 10th; triple jump - Felkins second, Walker eighth; pole vault - Bischoff fifth; 4x100 relay - first; 800m medley relay - third; 4x400 relay - first.

The middle school sixth-grade boys had four top 10 placers at the Rocky meet. Top 10 results for them were:

100m dash- James Sanders fourth, Brhysan Henton eighth; 200m dash- Henton sixth, Thomas Nichols tenth; 100m hurdles- Tre Clark sixth; Discus- Sanders ninth.

The sixth-grade girls’ points added to the seventh-grade girls helped Lovell pull through with an easy win, beating the next highest ranked team by almost 100 points.

Nellie Guccion helped add to the win by placing first and second in her events. Guccion ran the 800-meter run in 2:46.53, which got her to the first-place finish. In the 1,600-meter run, Guccion placed second, finishing the mile in 6:11.83.

Chloe Asay placed second in the 800-meter run with 2:52.57 as her time. Asay was just barely ahead of Guccion in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 6:11.66.

Other Lovell sixth-grade girls results (top 10) were:

400m dash - Olivia Rael eighth, Catherine Zollman ninth; 800m run - Addyson Leonhardt eighth; 1,600m run - Rebecca Stoker fourth, Oakley Abraham seventh; high jump - Kylie Nicholls fourth; triple jump - Emily Sanders fourth, Gemma Walker sixth; pole vault - Sanders sixth.

Many athletes were able to get a personal record and pre-qualify in their events at the Rocky meet this past weekend. With such promising results from this meet, prospects look good for the upcoming conference meet for the middle school Bulldogs. The conference meet willoccur in Worland on May 10 following the home Lovell meet tomorrow (Friday).
