Lovell powers past Worland in straight sets
Strong serve-receive and 39 kills highlight conference win
The Lovell High School volleyball program notched another impressive victory last week as the varsity Lady Bulldogs swept conference rival Worland in straight sets, 25-17, 25-23, 25-16.
The team showcased both focus and fun on the court to advance to a 15-3 record on the season and 1-1 in conference play. Head coach Tera Kostelecky praised her team’s poise and preparation.
“I was pleased with their ability to go into the match focused and finish focused while fulfilling their personal goals,” Kostelecky said. “They were able to do all this while having fun.”
The Lady Bulldogs used the match as an opportunity to experiment with new plays and continue developing their own rhythm.
They posted an 86% serving percentage.
“Although we’d like to be in the 90s, this is an area where we can continue to work and grow,” Kostelecky noted.
Strong serve-receive passing fueled Lovell’s tempo-paced offense, while persistent defense forced Worland into giving up 26 free balls.
The Lady Bulldogs capitalized with 39 kills and dug up 68 balls in the afternoon, underscoring their balance and hustle.
“I’m proud of the entire program,” Kostelecky said. “We’ve seen tremendous growth in all squads as we approach the halfway mark of the season.”
Lovell will look to keep their momentum rolling this week when they host Powell in another key conference matchup Thursday.
Action begins with the freshman team at 4 p.m., followed by junior varsity at 5 p.m. and varsity at 6 p.m.
On Saturday, the JV squad will travel to Roberts, Montana, for a one-day tournament.
