Lovell Rec holds grass volleyball tournament
Get ready to hit the grass. Lovell Rec is holding a four-on-four grass volleyball tournament this Saturday, Aug. 2. The tournament will take place at the Lovell Armory Park softball field with team check-in starting at 9:30 a.m. and play starting at 10.
The tournament will feature two divisions, one for middle school girls and one for co-ed teen/adults (14 years old and up). Overall play will be four on four, not the normal six on six play.
Kaeson Anderson, organizer of the tournament, noted, “We’re a new tournament. It’s only our second year doing it, but we hope to grow the tournament each year. We are hoping to get as many teams as possible in both divisions, hopefully at least the eight to 10 range.”
Rules will be similar to an average volleyball game as well as outdoor 4s, but there will be certain rules against tipping because of the small number of people on each side. Along with that, for the co-ed division, each team must have at least two girls on the court during play, and a girl must touch the ball at least once before it goes over. The only exception to that would be if the ball is only contacted once before going back over.
The playing fee is $75 per team, and all registration must be completed by Friday Aug. 1, at 6 p.m. Lovell Rec says no same-day sign-ups will be allowed, and no exceptions will be made, so be prepared and be ready to sign up, Anderson said.
