Meet the new maintenance director: Kyle Fluty

Big Horn County School District No. 2 has a new face leading its maintenance department. Kyle Fluty stepped into the role of maintenance director in June and has been busy ever since overseeing projects across the district.

Fluty was raised in Saratoga, Wyoming, and attended schools in Saratoga and across the border in Craig, Colorado. He’s been living in the Big Horn Basin for 15 years.

Fluty brings a diverse background to the job. Most recently, he worked at Powell Middle School as a daytime custodial and maintenance employee. He also has more than a decade of experience in custom home construction, starting in Saratoga right out of high school, and has spent time in both the construction and oilfield industries before moving into school facilities work.

In his new position, Fluty is responsible for coordinating both major projects, such as roofs, HVAC systems and parking lots, as well as day-to-day maintenance and custodial needs throughout the district. Though the role requires more paperwork and computer time than he’s used to, Fluty describes himself as “a hands-on kind of person” who enjoys tackling problems directly.

Since starting, he has managed several large projects, including asphalt sealing throughout the district and working to resolve issues with the high school’s chiller system, which powers the entire building’s air conditioning. He also supervises the district’s seven custodial staff members.

Looking ahead, Fluty is assessing long-term facility needs, with upgrades at the elementary school HVAC and improvements to the high school parking lot high on the list. And while questions about the future of the community swimming pool remain, he says decisions there will ultimately rest with the school board and the Town of Lovell. 

Kyle is looking forward to getting to know more of the staff in all the buildings and continuing to do his part in keeping all the Lovell schools running well.
