Middle school Grizz conclude season

Conference tournaments in Shoshoni and Thermopolis concluded the boys basketball season for the Rocky Mountain Middle school squads Saturday.

The eighth-grade team competed at the A tournament in Thermop Saturday, falling to host Thermopolis 40-26 and to Greybull 30-15.

Both teams were cold early in the first game as Thermop held a 4-2 lead after the first quarter, but the home team outscored Rocky 16-6 in the second quarter to lead 20-8 at halftime and edged the Grizz 20-18 in the second half.

Jaxson Sponsel led the Grizzlies with 11 points, and Jaxx May added 8 points, Lukas Miller 5 and Tejeo Scheeler 2.

As in the first game, Rocky and Greybull had trouble finding the basket early in game two, and Greybull led 1-0 after the first quarter. The Buffs then won the second 13-4 to lead 14-4 at halftime and outscored the Grizz 16-11 in the second half. Sponsel scored 8 points, May 4, Scheeler 2 and Cameron Minchow 1.

Seventh grade

The Rocky seventh graders played in a B/C team jamboree in Shoshoni Saturday, winning one of three games. The Grizz fell to Thermopolis 16-14 and to Dubois 44-35, then ended their season with a 35-18 win over Meeteetse.

Brooks Brost led the Grizz against Thermop with 5 points and
four steals, and Wyatt Blank and Hudson Moore added 4 points each,
Tyler Crosby 1.

Rocky led Dubois 18-15 at halftime in game two, only to see the Rams win the second half 18-15, sending the game into overtime. Dubois outscored the Grizz 11-2 in overtime.

Moore finished with 21 points and four rebounds to lead the Grizz, and Brost added 8 points and five assists, Ty Samson, Madden Cooley and Crosby 2 points each.

Rocky led Meeteetse 15-12 at halftime in the finale and outscored the Longhorns 20-6 in the second half.

Crosby led the Grizz with 10 points and eight rebounds. Cooley also scored 10 points, Moore 7, Brost 6, Blank 2.

The Rocky seventh grade finished the season with a 9-6 record.
