Mustangs B/C squad sweeps Thermopolis to start season 3-0

The Lovell Mustangs B/C team is off to a roaring start in the early portion of the 2026 season, so far playing to an undefeated record at 3-0.

The Mustangs opened the season at Powell last Tuesday, May 26, and defeated the Pioneers 12-4 as first baseman Dane Wilson had a perfect day at the plate, going 4-4 with a double and two runs batted in. Jaxen Baxendale went 3-4 as the Mustangs banged out 15 hits in seven innings against four Powell pitchers.

Easton Morgan, Wilson, Bradley Mickelson and Harper Morgan combined to allow just two hits and four unearned runs on the mound for the Mustangs.

Saturday, the Mustangs swept a doubleheader against Thermopolis at the Legion Field in Cowley, winning 3-2 and 7-5.

Game one came down to the wire, with the two teams tied 2-2 going into the bottom of the seventh inning. Wilson led off with a double, and Mickelson drew a walk. Camden Blain moved the runners up with a sacrifice bunt to load the bases as Thermop failed to get the lead runner, and Xaden Baxendale hit a walk-off single to score Wilson with the winning run.

Madden Cooley and Mickelson led the Mustangs with two hits each, and Mickelson started on the mound, allowing six hits and two runs, one earned, in 5 2/3 innings of work. Cooley picked up the win in relief, allowing no hits and no runs in an inning and a half on the hill.

Game two was an early slugfest, with the two foes tied 4-4 after two innings. The Mustangs took control with three in the third and went on to win 7-5. Dax Mangus, Harper Morgan and Jaxen Baxendale had two hits apiece in the game, with Baxendale ripping a double and triple. Easton Morgan had three RBIs and allowed five hits and four runs on the mound in four innings of work to pick up the win, striking out eight Thermop batters. Wilson threw the final two frames to get the save, allowing one run on two hits while fanning four.

The Mustangs will host Lander Monday for a pair at 5 p.m., then will travel to Powell Wednesday for a twin bill at 5 p.m.

The young Mustangs A team, currently 0-7, will travel to Powell Tuesday, June 16, for a doubleheader with first pitch set for 5 p.m., then host the Sheridan Jets June 19 at 1 p.m.
