Mustangs C drop two to Powell
Despite leading by as many as five runs, the Lovell Mustangs C team fell on the road to the Powell Pioneers 13-9 in game one of a doubleheader on Tuesday evening.
Ryan Grant and Madden Cooley led the Mustangs with two hits at the plate, while Aaiden Walker and Easton Morgan added one each.
Walker also pitched the first five innings of the game and allowed six runs (two earned) on seven hits and struck out two Powell batters.
Dax Mangus and Cooley provided a combined inning of relief to allow the final seven runs on two hits and one strikeout but gave the Pioneers five free base runners on walks.
The Mustangs fought back in game two, but the Pioneers were able to pull away late and seal the 12-10 victory, dropping Lovell’s record to 12-6 on the season.
Taysen Yates and Zander Stahl had the big bats for the Mustangs in the second game tallying two hits each. Mangus, Bradley Mickelson and Grant had one hit apiece.
Mickelson got the start on the mound for Lovell, and the righty left the game after three complete innings pitched and holding tight to a 4-2 lead. Cooley and Dane Wilson pitched the final three innings. The trio combined for four strikeouts, 11 walks, 12 runs (eight earned) on six hits.
Up next, the Legion C team will host Thermopolis at 4 p.m. next Monday in Cowley before traveling to Riverton on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. start time.
