NBH Rams grapplers put on strong showing at State
Members of the North Big Horn Rams USA wrestling team traveled to Casper over the weekend to compete at the Wyoming Amateur Wrestling Association’s state tournament in the Ford Wyoming Center.
After navigating the skin checks, weigh-ins and check-ins on Thursday evening, the wrestlers started with folkstyle on Friday.
Havana Martinez brought home the only gold for the Rams on Friday, winning both of her matches in the 10U girls 100-pound bracket, and the rest of the team combined to win first place for the small team division in folkstyle.
Other placers in folkstyle to reach the podium were:
Second place: Dino DeLaCruz, junior boys 138; Kali Jameson, 10U girls 73; Hawk Hecker 10U 59.
Third place: Hadley Henton, 12U girls 112; Hayden Harshman, 12U 98.
Fourth place: Cayden Dickerson, 12U 63; Emiliano Silva 16U 157.
Sixth place: August Guccion, 10U 77.
Other wrestlers that competed: Bradley Abraham, Kannon Bassett, Boone Guccion, Jace Jameson, Luke Korbe, Angelina Lauhoff, Carson Marberry and Roman Martinez.
FREESTYLE
DeLaCruz came out on top for the team’s second gold medal, winning the junior boys 138-pound class.
Second place finishers were: Hecker, 10U 59; Kali Jameson 10U girls 73.
Third place: Havana Martinez, 10U girls 90-100; Harshman, 12U 98.
Fourth place: Henton, 12U girls 112; Lauhoff, 12U girls 69; Dickerson, 12U 63; Silva, 16U 157.
Fifth place: Korbe, 8U 56.
GRECO-ROMAN
Kali Jameson finally topped her competition during the tournament to take first place in the 10U girls 73 bracket.
Second place: Lauhoff, 12U girls 69.
Fourth place: Dickerson, 12U 63; Harshman, 12U 98; Silva, 16U 150-157.
The state tournament concluded the North Big Horn Rams’ wrestling season, and a team pizza party to celebrate has been scheduled for all members of the club on Tuesday, April 29, at 6:30 p.m.
