There is a new face at North Big Horn Hospital. Payton Gambill has taken over the role as Foundation, Marketing and Grants Coordinator for the retiring Janet Koritnik.

Gambill is a Cody native and has lived in Powell for six years before coming to Lovell.

She has worked as a grant writer at Powell Valley Healthcare and Sheridan Memorial Hospital and has a master’s degree in healthcare administration from the University of Wyoming that she just completed in May.

“I am excited to be coming into this position,” Gambill said. “I am looking forward to continuing the mission of North Big Horn Hospital.”

She transferred to Sheridan from Powell because she wanted to get a feel for a larger facility and the operations process there. When the position opened in Lovell, the timing seemed right, as she was completing her master’s and had the chance to be closer to home.

“It was a great growth opportunity for my career,” she said. “Also, I just really valued the mission of the hospital here.”

Right out of high school, Gambill wanted to be a nurse. After taking some CNA courses, she quickly realized that patient care was not her forte, but she knew she was passionate about healthcare.

“I have such a desire to help rural healthcare, so I knew I wanted to stay in the industry. So I went down the healthcare administration path,” Gambill said.

Gambill has two stepsons, Carter (13) and Logan (10), with her husband, Brad, and the two have a 4-year-old son, Rhett.

The family stays busy with baseball, track, football and t-ball.

“We love to go camping in the summer when we have time,” she said. “All of our family is nearby in Cody, so that’s nice to be able to have a lot of support and do fun things with them.”

When asked about her plans stepping into the position, Gambill feels ready for the challenge.

“Janet is amazing, and she has been mentoring me and will continue to do so for a few more months,” she said. “I have some big shoes to fill, because she has done some amazing things for the hospital over the last 20 years, but I am excited to continue to build a foundation that can support the hospital and the care we provide our patients.”

For now, the golf tournament and Evening With Friends are the main fundraising events for the foundation, and Gambill plans to continue those efforts and possibly explore other ideas for fundraising in the future.
