New ER provider has roots in Lovell
Rustin Myrick’s family didn’t take family vacations to Disneyland when he was a child. They came to Lovell instead. He said he still has fond memories of those visits, especially time spent with his grandparents Harold and Eleanor Wagner.
So, when the opportunity to join the emergency room staff at North Big Horn Hospital as a provider came up recently, it made all the sense in the world to move his young family of five to Lovell. Myrick joined the staff at NBHH in early September as a nurse practitioner. Myrick brings with him a depth of experience and a specialization in emergency medicine.
Myrick joins the staff fresh off a one-year fellowship that ended in August in the busy emergency room at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center in Southern Wyoming. Prior to that he worked in the emergency room at Ivinson Memorial Hospital in Laramie for several years. He also has experience as a perioperative nurse preparing patients for surgery at Premiere Bone and Joint Center in Laramie, where he worked while attending school in Laramie.
Myrick completed his undergraduate work at the University of Wyoming and completed a specialized program to become a nurse practitioner at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. He completed his nurse practitioner clinicals at NBHH, where he said he noticed a special connection between hospital staff that he’s never seen anywhere else during his years as a medical professional.
“People look out for one another and are very supportive of one another here,” he said. “I’m really grateful to be part of that.”
Myrick saw 13 people on his very first shift, which may seem like an extraordinarily busy day to some, but for him, coming from the busy ER in Cheyenne, it seemed fairly normal.
He said he was especially impressed with the nurses that day who he found to be skilled, well-educated, very prepared and extremely supportive of him.
Returning to Lovell is like returning home to Myrick, who was born here but moved around in his youth due to his father’s employment. Those work-related transfers took the family to South Dakota, Montana and other parts of Wyoming, including Powell, where he graduated from high school.
“No matter where we were, we always knew in our hearts that Wyoming is where we wanted to be,” he said. “So, it feels good to be here.”
Myrick is married to the former Charlyn Ferbrache with four children ages 1–9. He said his young family enjoys recreating outdoors, and his children, who he describes as “like little fishes” are already enjoying trips to Horseshoe Bend. An avid outdoorsman, he said he looks forward to fly fishing opportunities, hunting and camping with his family.
“We’re already having fun here,” he said. “We’ve spent every spare moment having fun.”
