New Teacher - Lovell
Ali McAuliffe
College: Miles City Community College and Dickinson State University
What and where do you teach and/or coach?
I teach first grade at Lovell Elementary School.
What is your background? Where are you from? What is your professional experience?
I am from Miles City, Mont. I have lived there my entire life. I just recently moved to Wyoming this summer. I previously taught at a K-8 school in Miles City for four years. I taught kindergarten there under an emergency certification while finishing up earning my degree through DSU. Before that I also worked at a local preschool all throughout high school.
Tell us about your family.
My parents and younger sister still live in my hometown of Miles City. I also have an older sister who lives in South Dakota with her husband. My fiancé and I just moved to Wyoming this summer. We are all still very close and love to meet up and visit home when we can. My older sister and I love to travel in the summers to play softball with our partners.
Why did you get into education as a profession, and what do you like the most about teaching?
I have been helping in a classroom since I was little. I have always enjoyed helping kids learn and grow. Both of my parents are educators as well as a large chunk of the rest of my family. I love getting to watch the students grasp the concepts in class.
What is your teaching philosophy? How do you get the most out of students and inspire them to learn?
I think the most important part of teaching is making sure that students enjoy school to the best of their ability. If there is not a relationship between the student and teacher, the students will not enjoy coming to school and it will make it more difficult to learn. The more kids enjoy school the more willing they will be to learn.
What are you most looking forward to this school year?
I am looking forward to being part of this wonderful new community. I am also super excited to welcome a new group of students into class to have a wonderful year with.
