Newman returns home after serving in Las Vegas
Amee Newman, daughter of Lovell mayor Tom Newman and Susie Newman, recently returned home after completing an 18-month mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Newman served as a Spanish-speaking missionary in the Nevada Las Vegas East Mission, where she experienced both personal growth and meaningful service.
During her time in Las Vegas, Newman said she learned important lessons about faith, effort and personal responsibility.
“I learned that I truly can accomplish anything if I put in the work and have the faith that God will provide,” she said.
Watching others take control of their lives also had a lasting impact.
“My life will become what I make it, and I have full control of my future,” she noted.
Along the way, she also discovered a love for speaking Spanish and gained an appreciation for authentic Mexican food.
Serving in Las Vegas came with challenges. Beyond the extreme heat, Newman said the most difficult part was wanting to help everyone she met while recognizing the limits created by complex life situations. Still, she said her mission reinforced one central message: “Most importantly, I learned that God loves each of His children.”
Looking ahead, Newman plans to move to Virginia in January to attend Southern Virginia University, where she will compete in track and field. A Lovell High School graduate, she was the 800-meter state champion in 2023 and the Senior Female Athlete for the Class of 2023. She plans to study biochemistry and hopes to apply to physician assistant school after completing her undergraduate degree.
