Newspapers praised for Pioneer Day coverage

Dear Editor,

Many times, we take things for granted. At our final Pioneer Day Committee meeting for the year, the subject was brought up of how well our local paper covered our annual celebration with stories and photos. I was given the assignment to write this editorial to thank the Lovell Chronicle for their wonderful coverage.

Each of our town celebrations take a lot of volunteers and time to make them successful. Many of us enjoy the day without a thought of the hours put into planning, decorating, organizing or sponsoring the many events that we all enjoy. Those that have served in some of these positions in the past certainly understand and can better appreciate what goes into a successful event.

In this particular case, I was one of those that gave little thought to our newspaper’s coverage of these events or other stories of interest in our communities. Maybe it’s because we’ve always had great coverage from our paper and expect nothing less. From headline news stories and sporting events to the police report and weather forecast, the Lovell Chronicle does an outstanding job covering the stories and events that are important to us all.

The time required to attend the event, take pictures at the event, create a story of the event and then print that article would be time consuming enough, but to add the many events and stories that our paper covers every week makes me tired just thinking about the weekly grind. Add to all of this a weekly deadline, and you have a demanding and tough job.

We’re lucky enough to have such a paper here in this area. To David Peck and his staff of the Lovell Chronicle, the Greybull Standard and the Basin Republican Rustler, thank you for doing a great job and continually promoting our area with the stories that are important to all of us.  Our local papers certainly help us with our sense of community.
