Nola Marie Doty Christoffersen Voss
July 20, 1929 – Oct. 8, 2025
Nola Marie Doty Christoffersen Voss, 96, passed from this life on October 8, 2025.
She was born July 20, 1929, to Joseph and Rose Griffin Doty on the Griffin homestead outside Byron. The family later moved into town, where Nola attended school, graduating with Byron’s Class of 1947.
Nola enjoyed time spent with her family, particularly singing around the piano in the evenings, and the many adventures shared with her older brothers Kenneth and Oris and her younger siblings Leola Rose and Allen.
Music was Nola’s passion. She was blessed with an angelic voice and sang at countless funerals, weddings, community programs and school choirs. As a young woman she sang with the Jake Adolf Orchestra, which toured around Wyoming and Montana. She attended Ricks College on a music scholarship, where she performed in four musical productions.
Nola married the love of her life, John William Christoffersen, on May 15, 1950, in Byron. They were later sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple. Nola and J.W. were married for 58 years before J.W. passed away in 2008. Nola and J.W. are the parents of Linda, John, Blair and Julie. The family lived in Powell before moving to Byron in 1964 and eventually retiring to the warmer climate of Sun City, Arizona.
Nola cherished her children and took immense pride in their accomplishments, while the love she held for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren filled her life with joy.
Nola demonstrated her unfailing faith in our Savior, Jesus Christ, throughout her life. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints she held a variety of callings. One notable favorite was working with the young women and participating in girl’s camp. In 1989 Nola and J.W. were called to serve as senior missionaries at the Idaho Falls Temple visitor’s center. The temple was a special place for Nola. She attended often and served as a temple worker in the Mesa Arizona Temple.
After the passing of her beloved J.W. in 2008, Nola married Carl Voss at the age of 80. They enjoyed traveling and spending time together. Carl was a kind companion to Nola in her later years.
Nola was preceded in death by her husband John William Christoffersen, parents Joseph and Rose Doty, brothers Kenneth Doty and Oris Doty and great-grandchildren Tim Riding and Braidon Cain.
She is survived by her husband Carl Voss; children Linda (Joseph) Tritchler, John (Patsy) Christoffersen, Blair (Jolie) Christoffersen and Julie (Edwin) Riding; 17 grandchildren; and 40 great-grandchildren.
Nola lived with joy and kindness, leaving a lasting light in the lives she touched. She will be dearly missed.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 11, at 10 a.m. in the Byron Ward Chapel. Interment in the Byron Cemetery followed the service. Funeral arrangements were provided by Haskell Funeral Home.
