Norald Silas Emmett

Beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother Norald Silas Emmett, 86, died Aug. 31, 2016, in Lovell.  Norald was born Feb.10, 1930, on the family farm near Lovell, the second son of Paul Silas and Julia Eva Despain Emmett.[caption id="attachment_11615" align="alignright" width="156"] Norald Silas Emmett[/caption]Norald met the love of his life, May Fillerup of Lovell, in Rawlins, where he was working for Western Electric. She was teaching school in Sinclair. They were married June 2, 1958, in the Logan, Utah, LDS Temple. His main occupation during their years of raising a family was highway construction. He worked for Brasel and Sims Construction Co., which was later changed to Sims Corp. He retired in 1992. Norald then spent his time helping others and tinkering around the farm.He attended Lovell schools and graduated from Lovell High School in 1948. During and after high school, Norald worked hauling hay for J. Doyle Moncur. He served with Wyoming National Guard Service Battery, 300th Armored Field Artillery Battalion, in the Korean War from 1951-1952.Norald was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a full time mission in the Central States Mission from 1954-1956. He touched the lives of many people and served in several callings, including high priest group secretary, Sunday school teacher, home teacher, ward executive secretary and LDS stake missionary at the Lovell Stake Family History Center with his wife, May.He loved spending time with his family, especially when it involved mountains and fishing or shooting fireworks in the backyard.Norald was preceded in death by his parents Paul Silas and Julia Eva Despain Emmett, his two infant sisters, Myrna Roween and Berniece, his older brother Elwood Despain Emmett and his sister Nina J. Emmett Godfrey.Norald is survived by his wife of 58 years, May Fillerup Emmett of Lovell, his children Max Paul (Linda) Emmett of Harvey, N.D., David Lane (Tracy)  Emmett of Medical Lake, Wash., Douglas Silas (Rosimar) Emmett of San Antonio, Texas, Susan Emmett (Steve) Banks of Alliance, Neb., and Sandra Emmett (Erik) Hendershot of Lovell.  He is also survived by his sister Leta Emmett Gifford of American Fork, Utah, and his 18 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2016, at the Stake Center in Lovell. A viewing was held Monday, Sept. 5, at Haskell Funeral Home, and Tuesday, Sept. 6, prior to services at the LDS Stake Center.The family expresses their thanks to friends and family for all of their kindness during this difficult time.
