North Big Horn Rams kick off USA Wrestling season

The North Big Horn Rams wrestling team traveled to Worland on Saturday to compete in their season-opening folkstyle tournament.
The Rams had a strong showing for the first tournament with several individuals placing in the top spots.
As a team, the Rams scored 274 overall points to finish in sixth place behind Thermopolis, Cody, Powell, Riverton and Worland and out of a total of 25 teams represented.
In individual results, Kali Jameson took first place in the 8U Girls 62-pound division, going 3-0 and winning all matches via pin and scoring 20 team points.
Jameson also won the gold medal in the 8U 62-pound division. After receiving a bye in the first round, she pinned her first three opponents and won the championship by technical fall, 16-1, for another 31.5 team points.
Anthony Mcillwaine went 2-0 over his opponents to take the 8U 125-pound championship and earn 6 team points.
In the 10U Girls 84–95-pound division, Hadley Henton quickly pinned her opponent in 17 seconds in both matches to take first and 6 team points.
Hawk Hecker had a dominating performance in the 10U 49–53-pound division, scoring 25 team points and winning the gold medal. Hecker received a bye, then pinned his way through the quarterfinal, won by majority 8-0 in the semifinal round and won by decision 8-6 in the first place match.
In the 12U 108-pound division, Alex Mcillwaine went 2-1 to earn 5.5 team points and first place.
Vada Schmidt placed first in the 14U Girls 121–127-pound division by going 2-0 against her Lander challenger for 4 team points.

Sixth place: Kannon Bassett, 10U 67, 1-3.

Next on the schedule, the North Big Horn Rams will be in Cody for the Buffalo Bill Showdown on Saturday to compete in both folkstyle and freestyle divisions. The folkstyle tournament will begin at 8 a.m.
