Officers de-escalate man with knife situation
Officers convinced a 28-year-old suicidal man with a six-inch knife not to harm himself or others in an altercation that took place on Monday around noon in Lovell. The incident began with a call to dispatch from a concerned friend that the man was threatening suicide and had the means to do it.
Officer Cody Clark was first on the scene but put out a call for backup from any law enforcement personnel in the vicinity. Chief Roger Haney responded, along with four Big Horn County Sheriff’s deputies and two park service rangers.
Though the man bluff charged Clark a few times, Clark remained calm and convinced the distraught individual to agree to a voluntary evaluation by a trained mental health professional at North Big Horn Hospital. The man was later transferred to a crisis facility in Worland for additional help.
No one was injured during the altercation.
