The Cowley Progress
The heavy rain of Tuesday night was the means of deterring many Cowley people from attending the fair at Basin this week who had planned to go. They all fear that stretch of highway between Lovell and Greybull known to all as the Blue Hill, which is a regular nightmare to motorists after heavy rains. ‘Twould appear that the state highway commission could be importuned to squeeze enough cash from its millions to surface with crushed gravel at least that stretch of highway.

Last Saturday Mr. and Mrs. John Pfeiffer arrived by train, the first of the displaced persons from Europe to join our community. They come here from Hungary after four years in Austria. Mr. Pfeiffer is a brother of Mrs. Henry Gams Sr., and this is their first reunion in more than 45 years. They are now staying with the Gams.
Before the war Mr. Pfeiffer was a postmaster, with a sideline of beekeeping. In their 50s, they are beginning here with no material possessions. Their scanty English makes it difficult for us to comprehend when they tell of the terrors they have survived. Taken by Communists to a concentration camp, they eventually escaped and with the aid of a son made their way across the border to Austria. Both of them stress strongly the fact that we here in America should beware of the Communists on the basis of their sad experience.
