The Cowley Progress
It is perhaps not generally known that the Cowley grade school, under the principalship of Mrs. Cleo A. Vaterlaus, assisted by her able corps of teachers, has gone into the restaurant business on a small, though important, scale. It was found that many of the people from the outlying districts come to school with entirely inadequate and in some cases poorly prepared noon lunches.
This coming to the attention of the principal, who found many of the children undernourished, the plan to serve lunches cooked in school by those better fed and assisted by the lady teachers was evolved and given a thorough tryout. So satisfactory has this plan proved that it is now being practiced with wonderful results. This is a new innovation in school feeding and has already become popular.

A major roadblock was lifted from the path of the Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area transpark highway (from Devil’s Canyon to Barry’s Landing) Monday. U.S. Dist. Judge James Battin ruled the National Park Service’s environmental impact statement met the requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act.
He dissolved the preliminary injunction granted in 1974, which has delayed construction more than one year. The injunction was requested by the Montana Wildlife Federation and the Montana Wilderness Assn. Appeals of the decision are expected, as the two environmental groups indicated earlier they would seek a higher opinion if the decision went against them.

The smash hit movie “The Revenant,” which on January 10 won a Golden Globe Award for best picture in the drama category and was later nominated for 12 Academy Awards, has a tie to Lovell. Michael Punke, author of the novel upon which the movie is based, was born and lived part of his childhood in Lovell when his father, Verle “Butch” Punke, taught at Lovell High School.
