The Cowley Progress

The undersigned is once more at the helm of this great moral uplift, having repurchased The Progress plant which we sold two months ago to Anderson and Williams. An announcement of this fact was made in last week’s Progress by the retiring publishers, who have given their readers and advertisers a very creditable paper during their two months’ ownership. – Emil Vaterlaus & Sons, Publishers

The Cowley community hall was the scene of a beautiful Christmas dance sponsored by  Cowley High School last Friday evening. A huge Christmas tree covered with blue lights and silver icicles stood in the center of the floor. Smaller trees snow laden were in the corners. Suzanne Willis, gowned in a French model of white tulle and wearing a royal satin robe, was escorted to the sparkling throne and crowned “snow queen of 1950” by Billy Holyoak, student body president.

The Sheep Mountain area … and the Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area have received new or additional funding, according to word received here. State Senator Cal Taggart was told of the congressional approval by Wyoming Congressman Teno Roncalio in conversations earlier this week.

Sheep Mountain, a unique geologic phenomena, is one of two areas named for 1976 feasibility studies to determine if they should be set aside as nationally protected areas of interest. Another $690,000 has been approved for the National Park Service visitor center complex here; this would provide for roads and other landscaping around the area. In  addition, $58,000 has been OKed for further improvements on the causeway at the south end of Big Horn Lake.

Letters to Santa: Dear Santa, I want to ask a question. How do your reindeer fly? I want a small motorcycle, a robot, a tornato twister track set, some Legos, CD players, colored game boy, and a snow board! I try to be nice but sometimes I’m not. Please! – Josh Scheffler

Dear Santa Claus and Rudolph, Why does your nose shine so bright? Please give me a real horse, a toy Rudolph and a Beanie Baby dog. I Love you. – Kristen Cerroni

Letters to Santa: Dear Santa, This year I’ve been really good. These are the things I want for Christmas. I really want a real bird, a real bird cage, and a pretend horse (with wings.) Love, Claire Shumway

Dear Santa, How are you? How’s Mrs. Clause? I’ve been pretty good this year. I’ve been polite this year too. May I have a Duke robe? May I also have a Super Smash Bros brawl for my Wii? See ya Santa! Sincerely, Owen Walker
