The top man on the seniority list of Burlington Northern telegraphers west of the Missouri sends his last message here tomorrow. J.J. Woods retires after 36 years in the Lovell depot as telegrapher and then agent – completing a railroading career he began at age 18. He gets more than a slight gleam in his eye as he recalls the heyday of the railroads – the days trains were the in form of travel.
Woods has all the seniority lists back into the ‘40s and can trace his rise on the lists year-by-year through the 20s, teens and right up to number one this past year. His progress through the ranks was slowed by expansion of the small division here first to Nebraska, then to everything west of the Missouri.

When describing her 27 years as an elementary school teacher in Big Horn County, Lovell resident Sharla Zwemer is most enthusiatstic about the thrill of seeing her students grow and progress and then witnessing their successes as adults. In fact, Zwemer, who retired from BHC School District No. 1 at the end of May, also enjoyed the delight of teaching the children of some former students.
