In a letter received by the Progress last night from Congressman Chas. E. Winter, he informs us that as soon as Congress had met he recommended the appointment of C. Golden Welch to be postmaster of Cowley. The appointment will doubtless be made within the next few days.

C.S. Robertson drove to Billings yesterday and returned with the 1949 Buick, which was announced last week. This new drive is said to be the last word in gearless transmission of power without the use of anything but automatic fluid turbines, which operate properly at all speeds without any attention of any kind from the driver.

There will be a non-lighted home decorating contest this Christmas season sponsored by the North Big Horn Chamber of Commerce in cooperation with members of the Lovell Town Council. The idea for the decorating contest stemmed from Monday’s council meeting when discussion came up on Christmas lighting in Lovell. According to Herman Fink, chamber president and councilman, the contest has a total of $65 collected, $25 from the Chamber and $40 from the council, to donate toward the contest.

Governor Jim Geringer announced Wednesday that Hot Springs County Attorney Robert E. Skar will become the first County Court Judge of Big Horn County. Back in May of this year, the Big Horn County Commissioners passed a resolution to create a County Court system to provide for a more efficient administration of justice and decrease the case load in District Court.

Cowley native JR Vezain will be riding bareback in the $6.25 million Wrangler National Finals Rodeo competition, which begins this week in Las Vegas. Vezain is entering the competition in sixth place, based on his winnings so far of $84,729.
