Mrs. James P. Donahue, daughter of the late F.W. Woolworth, pays more taxes than any other woman in the country. Her personal assessment is a million dollars, just a hundred thousand dollars less than John D. Rockefeller is assessed. Mrs. Donahue belongs to no political party, never votes, but is devoted to her home and children.

Friday evening in the Deaver Community Methodist church a dinner, sponsored by the official board of the church and served by members of the Woman’s Society of Christian Service, took place. Proceeds from the dinner, served at $5 a plate, brought in $1,243.

The church building is being completed, and is to be dedicated probably in the early spring of the coming year. It is a structure with a large seating capacity, sanctuary and chancel and is furnished with an electric organ.

Rose City Food Farm, under the ownership of Tom Cornwall, will host a grand opening this weekend in Lovell. Opened Wednesday in the former Safeway building on Main Street, the new Associated Food Stores outlet will feature many faces familiar to area shoppers.

Cornwall, who managed Safeway in Lovell over the past eight years, has hired Bert Winterholler to head the meat department, Stan Bay as assistant manager and Melba Tippetts, all former Safeway employees. Cornwall emphasized Food Farm is not a chain, and the store is locally owned.

They say all good things must come to a end – even 28-game winning streaks. The Rocky Mountain Grizzlies lost for the first time in three years Saturday as a tough, physical Pinedale Wrangler squad put the clamps on the Grizzlies for an 18-7 win in the semi-final round of the Class A, Division I playoffs in Byron.

“We knew it was coming, but you’re never quite prepared for it,” said Rocky coach Ben Smith of the end of the streak believed to be the longest in the history of Wyoming football. (No records are kept by the Wyoming High School Activities Association.)

“Love Yourself” and “Be Drug Free” were the central themes of this year’s Red Ribbon/Character Counts Week Oct. 27-31. Throughout the week teachers led discussion groups about what it means to be of good character. The students also wrote essays that were entered in a contest, where the best essays were selected from every class. Students who wrote the winning essays won certificates for their efforts. All the students received numerous prizes and treats for their efforts throughout the week, including special bracelets, ribbons, pencils and suckers.
